The growth challenge

Mike had already solved cold email, which is what makes this an unusual case study. He had been writing his own copy, setting up his own sending accounts and booking his own meetings for a couple of years, and by his own account the meeting rate was solid. Nothing was broken.

What had run out was his time. Verticulate builds bespoke automation for agencies, work that needs a thorough understanding of a client’s operations before it can even be scoped. That is not something you fit around a sending schedule.

“The meeting book rate and everything was pretty solid, but I was just looking for a partner to take that off my shoulders, and to monitor everything and have everything set up and meetings booked, so that I can focus more on the business side, because I can’t be doing everything on my own when I actually want to run a business.”

He had also done something most people skip. Rather than keep sending while the proof was thin, he paused outreach entirely and spent the time getting testimonials and case studies in place first, so a prospect who looked Verticulate up would find something worth finding. He arrived with that already done.

How we solved it

The proof he had built became the campaign’s strongest asset. A prospect who received an email could go to verticulate.io and find real case studies, real reviews, and a company that was evidently what it claimed to be. That moves a reply rate further than any subject line.

From there the work was reach: contacting far more of the right agencies than one person running a company could manage, and doing it every day rather than in the gaps.

The part Mike singles out sits outside lead generation altogether.

“What really stood out was the assistance, apart from the actual lead gen. Everything to do with the sales cycle and all the assets. We’ve bounced some ideas off each other and seen where we could improve results, or test some other angles.”

Being based outside the UK turned out not to be the constraint he expected. The programme opened conversations with reputable, larger agencies, several of them running internal AI and automation steering groups, which lengthens the cycle but signals real intent.
